You can’t visit Seattle without spending some time at Pike Place Market. Its a fabulous mix of tourists there to see the fish being thrown (yes, they really do that) and locals, picking up the freshest produce for lunch and dinner.
The market is much bigger than we had anticipated so we were particularly glad that we’d booked a tour with Savor Seattle. Our guide Heather led us expertly through a veritable feast of samples as well as giving us insights into the history of the Market and drawing our attention to some of its more unique features – we were surprised to learn that the Market is home to a range of social projects including a seniors’ center, food bank, clinic and pre-school as well as housing for seniors.
While everything we ate was pretty amazing, we particularly recommend stopping at Ellenos for “life-changing” Greek yogurt and Pike Place Chowder for their award winning clam chowder. If we had had more time, we would also have gone back to Etta’s because their tiny crab cakes were just amazing.
We also recommend visiting in the morning – when we stopped by the next day in the afternoon, the crowds were much bigger!
You captured it well. I agree with the favorites and have to put in a special mention for Beecher’s Market Herb cheese curds. Squeaky good!!
